Depois do grande remix para Human Resource da faixa ‘Dominator’, lançada na Armada Subjekt e o EP para Erase Records, Wax Worx continua sua série criativa com lançamento de quatro faixas na Swerve Digital. O release consiste em duas faixas bem autênticas e dois remixes do Solo Tamas e Fancy Inc & Hippocoon.
Party People é o nome da track, a música perfeita para pessoas festeiras, com seus batimentos de percussão tribais e groovadas e linha de baixo mais deep. Com seus ganchos vocais clássicos, vozes robóticas e loops inteligentes com efeitos automatizados, a intensidade e a vibração são proeminentes e a energia flui consistentemente com a máxima perfeição.
Das duas faixas originais, Schemin contém amostras vocais ainda mais clássicas, com mais foco no baixo, bumpin e jumpin` bassline. O padrão de percussão proeminente ao longo da faixa melhora o ritmo funky da track. Eles trouxeram um massivo bass line, muito bem mixado e alcance de frequências amplas, com uma linha de sintetizadores arpegiados, cortes precisos nos vocais somando com kick bem marcante com grande quantidade de energia.
Conversamos com Mike Aka Wax Worx sobre sua carreira e os planos para o futuro.
HM: Quando você começou a discotecar? O que ou quem foram suas primeiras paixões e influências?
Wax Worx: Eu comecei muito novo, 14 anos de idade. Minha irmã mais velha já frequentava Raves ilegais lá nos anos 90 e eu costumava ouvir as fitas mixadas dela. A partir daí arrumei uma maneira de chegar eu mesmo a uma rave. Os primeiros DJs que vi, era o duo chamado Rat Pack (Lipmaster Mark & Everson Allen). Depois de vê-los no controle da energia na pista da maneira que eles fizeram eu sabia que era isso que eu queria fazer. Aí comecei a economizar um dinheiro para meus primeiros toca-discos e comecei a ir em raves todos finais de semana dali em frente. Colecionando discos e economizando para meu próprios decks. Quando tinha 16 anos, tive meu primeiro set no Infamous “Sterns Interdance’ festa em Brighton.
HM: Quais são seus desafios atuais como DJ? O que você nos fala sobre?Wax Worx : Ser DJ comparado a vamos dizer, produzir sua própria música, isso faz as coisas mais interessantes para você?Sou viciado em tocar. Eu amo mais que tudo criar uma atmosfera, ler o que a multidão quer ouvir e levá-los a uma jornada, para mim, não ˙há nada melhor do que sentir isso. O maior desafio são os dias de sets curtos, apenas uma hora, as vezes não é tempo de sobra para entrar em um groove.
HM: Por favor, recomende 5 DJ’s que você acredita que merecem a atenção dos nossos leitores.
Wax Worx : Billy Kenny – Esse cara é um verdadeiro DJ perverso, ele tem seu estilo único e sempre traz uma festa alegre. Ele é um Dirtybird e cuida da sua gravadora chamada Aint’ Bristol.
Rich Wakley – Um dos meus produtores favoridos de UK, também um dos DJs favoritos para ser ver tocar, sempre coloca fogo na pista. Com lançamentos em gravadoras como Avotre, Suara, Lost, Roush e Rosonance ele é tão quente no estúdio quanto se apresentando.
My Cat Snoop – Esse cara tem uma série de lançamentos muito bons ultimamente, incluindo o ultimo ‘Repeat’ na gravadora do Jamie Jomes ‘Hot Traxx’. Ele é um rapaz local da minha cidade natal de Brighton e também tem um amor compartilhado por gatos.
Maxine Garman – Esta garota está surgindo em minhas cases este ano, outra colega de Brighton, eu vi que ela está tocando em algumas noites muito boas ao redor do Reino Unido, ela é residente da TAKE e também tem se desdobrado em Ibiza nas noites em ` Zoo Project `e Sankeys. Mais uma vez, uma produtora muito boa que acaba de lançar sua própria gravadora a Red Alert.
Ben Sterling – Jovem DJ DE UK, também muito talentoso produtor que acabada de assinar com Josh Butlers ‘Origins’ Label, e também colaborador em minha label. Ele é um jovem muito esforçado no mercado da música e puramente apaixonado, não apenas pelo sucesso.
HM: Você recentemente lançou o EP Party People, que inclue duas tracks originais e dois remixes. Fale mais sobre o processo criativo para esse EP.
Wax Worx : Os originais deste EP primeiro tomaram forma, como muitas das minhas produções, infundidas de faixas de meus dias de raves, old skoll de “Hardcore” e “Breakbeat” que eu tenho em vinil, eu costumo usar samples da minha coleção de vinil ou simplesmente gastar horas ouvindo-os e me inspirando. O que eu tento fazer é recriar a mesma energia, a energia que senti quando me apaixonei pela música que me emociona muito, mas para traduzí-la para um som mais moderno de hoje.
HM: O que você tem programado para 2018? O que vem por aí?
Wax Worx : Tenho dois meses a mais com shows de DJ ao redor do Reino Unido, estou em Ibiza para os DJ Awards e, depois, fora de Amsterdã para tocar no ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event). Também tenho música saindo Hippies Records, um remix para Erase Records para Wolf Story lads, bem como música que sai no meu próprio selo Shanghaied. Em 2018, tours para Austrália e Brasil estão no planejamento e, claro, muitas músicas novas, algumas das quais estão programadas para ser lançadas em algumas das minhas gravadoras favoritas em que eu estou focando, mas não posso falar mais sobre, apenas fique de olho.

After his huge remix of Human Resource `Dominator` on Armada Subjekt and EP on Erase Records, Wax Worx continues his productive streak with a 4-track release on Swerve Digital. The release consists of two inquisitive original tracks and two remixes from Solo Tamas and Fancy Inc & Hippocoon.
Party People is as the song is entitled, the perfect song for party people, with its tribal-infused percussive beats and booming, grooving and deep bassline. With its classic catchy vocal hooks, robotic voices chanting the track name, and clever loops and effects automated into the vocal, the intensity and vibe is prominent throughout and the energy consistently flows with upmost perfection.
Of the two original tracks, Schemin’ contains even more classic vocal samples, with more focus on the swinging low, bumpin’ and jumpin’ bassline. The prominent percussion pattern throughout the track enhances the swing and rhythm of this funky number. If you want an exhilarating breakdown delivering a consistent heightening build and euphoric intensity followed by a chilling vocal sample saying “stop scheming”’, this is the one for you.
Making his debut and his entrance into the world of the music industry, Solo Tamas comes in with a mighty remix of Party People. The deep plucky nature of the bassline drives the track in an almost dark, pumpy forward motion, coupled with spectacular sound field of unique effects and sharp synthesis exploring the stereo field in a well-executed manner. Coming out of the oscillated breakdown, you get an electrified re-entry into the raw nature of the remix.
Finally, we end on a special remix from two of Spain’s hottest duos, Fancy Inc and Hippocoon in an exhilarating and beautiful remix of Party People. The remix they have brought to us consists of a
massive, well-mixed bassline filling a huge frequency range, clever arpeggiated synth lines, sharp cuts and chops of the lead vocal, a phat punchy kick and a huge amount of energy.
We Had a talk with Mike Aka Wax Worx about his career and future.
HM:When did you start DJing – and what or who were your early passions and influences?
Wax Worx :I started very young, 14 years old .. My older brother was going to illegal raves back in the 90’s and I used to listen to the mix tapes he had. I then managed to get into one local rave myself, the first DJs I saw were a duo called Rat Pack (Lipmaster Mark & Everson Allen) after seeing them control the vibe in the room the way they did i knew it was what I wanted to do. I started to save money for my first turntables and went “raving” every weekend from then on, collecting records while saving up for my own decks. I was 16 when I got my first set at the then Infamous ’Sterns Inter-dance’ parties in Brighton.
HM: What are currently your main challenges as a DJ? What is it about DJing, compared to, say, producing your own music, that makes it interesting for you?
Wax Worx :I’m addicted to DJing, I love nothing more than creating an atmosphere, reading a crowd and taking them on a journey, for me there is no better feeling than this. The biggest challenge for me these days is short set times, I feel like i know many others do, that just 1 hour, sometime less! is just not enough time to get into your groove.
HM: Please recommend five DJs to our readers which you feel deserve their attention.
Wax Worx :Billy Kenny – This guy is truly a wicked DJ, he has his own unique style and always brings fun to the party! He is a Dirtybird regular and also runs his own wicked label called This Ain’t Bristol.
Rich Wakley – one of my favourite UK producers, also one of my favourite DJs to go and see play, always sets the room on fire. With releases on labels such as Avotre, Suara, Lost, Roush and Resonance he is just as hot in the studio as he behind the decks, he’s also a bit of a stud.
My Cat Snoop – This guy has had a string of wicked releases of late, including his latest ‘Repeat’ on Jamie Jones ‘Hot Traxx’ Label. He is a local lad from my home town of Brighton and also has a shared love of cats.
Maxine Garman – This girl has been popping up on my radar loads this year, another fellow Brightonian, I have see that she is playing some really cool nights around the UK, she is resident for TAKE and has also been cutting her teeth in Ibiza for nights at ‘Zoo Project’ and Sankeys. Again also a wicked producer who has just launched her own label Red Alert.
Ben Sterling – Young up and coming DJ from the UK, also a very talented producer who has just been signed to Josh Butlers ‘Origins’ label, as well as my label Shanghaied. He is a very humble young guy who is in the music business purely for the passion and not just for the glory.
HM:You recently released the EP titled `Party People`, which includes two original tracks and two remixes. Tell us about the recording process for this EP.
Wax Worx :The originals on this E.P first took shape like many of my productions do, infused from tracks from my raving days, old skooll ‘Hardcore’ and ‘Breakbeat’ tracks which I have on vinyl, I often use samples from my vinyl collection or just spend hours listening to them, taking in inspiration. What I try to do is to re-create the same energy, the energy I felt when I first fell in love with the music that gets me really excited, but to translate it into a more modern sound of today.
HM: What have you got planned for 2018? What’s next ?
Next I have a couple of busy months ahead with DJ gigs around the UK, I’m out In Ibiza for the DJ Awards and then off the Amsterdam to play at ADE ( Amsterdam Dance Event) I have music coming out Hippies Records, a remix on Erase records for the Wolf Story lads, as well as music coming out on my own label Shanghaied. 2018 will be more of the same, including Australia and Brazil tours in planning and of course lots of new music, some of which are set to be released on some of my favourite labels that I`ve had my heart set on, but I can`t say any more on those just yet, watch this space!
